about

"four densely layered compositions, articulated into movements of an overall piece entitled Astronomy And Allied Science, which incorporate long guitar drones, treated distorted guitars and ethereal string work. There are echoes of My Bloody Valentines, Mogwai and, to a lesser extent, Godspeed You! Black Emperor in these pieces, but the trio’s work remains truly individual. The three first pieces are totally beat-less and evolve into one another without clear transition, moving from the gentle breeze of the opening composition into the much more intense circumvolutions of the following section and into the complex formations of the third part. It is only on the last piece that drums are introduced, bringing the pace up considerably for a short out burst of distortions before folding up." The Milk Factory

"..."Astronomy And Allied Sciences" sees them experimenting further in their quiet-quiet-bam!-really-fucking-loud sound, sporting crazy rhythm sequences and complex sampling that would make the afore mentioned mathematician proud." The Silent Ballet

"a slow-motion prelude to a violent, string-drenched episode. If there's one thing that distinguishes the group's sound, it's strings, here so abundant it sometimes feels like entire orchestra sections are involved. Half way through the side, violins weave in graceful counterpoint over the echoing shudder of guitar-generated shards after which drums kick the band into cataclysmic overdrive during a raucous coda. Listeners lamenting the absence of new Godspeed You! Black Emperor material will find much to appreciate." Textura

"...seas of strings, cello taking the mood into the avant garde, intermittent torrents of guitar, drones and echoes commingle to conjure something actually engaging rather than frustrating." Straight No Chaser

Mandelbrot Set UK

6 hands, 10 strings, 1 drum set and a plethora of pedals creating a massive pulsing noise that resonates between harmony and dischord. Combining influences from David Pajo's seminal 'M' project, to the density of Sunn O))'s bowel shaking sound, yet processed and shaped into the syntax and language of something altogether more electronic sounding. ... more
