about

"Yet another great release from the Highpoint Lowlife imprint, this time showcasing the experimental solo musings of Keung Mandelbrot, who sculpted this four-part outing using only a guitar and a handful (well, eighteen actually) effects pedals. During the opening (title) cut especially, there are comparisons to be made between Mandelbrot's scrappy, pedal-driven DSP action and early Fennesz recordings, often bringing to mind the glory days of Hotel Paral.lel. Certainly at various points you'll be struck by the early-days-of-Mego vibes emanating from your speakers. All this is offset somewhat by the album's intermittent gushes of all-round harmonious loveliness, which shouldn't be regarded as a bad thing by any means - the fluctuation between surges of noise and more tranquilised drone passages works splendidly. Recommended." Boomkat

"...Effect/Delay is an experimental noise record that still manages to sound accessible, for every abrasive face splattering section there is another of melodic bliss. It never feels self-indulgent either. Mandelbrot keeps it dynamic with ever shifting moods and subtle progressions, holding your interest the whole time playing with your emotions with a visceral sonic pallet. A mesmerising set piece showing versatility and vision but overall an engaging ride."
The Sonic Minefield

"...Mandelbrot (Keung of Mandelbrot Set) weighs in with an incredible monolith, the fourteen-minute “Effect / Delay,” that begins with a grinding distorted mass that slowly escalates into a seething maelstrom of feedback. Eight minutes in, the noise abruptly stops except for a high-pitched, flickering tone that earmarks the piece's shift into the glacial noise-drenched crawl of its second section." Textura

"the fact that these tracks were played in one take is impressive... pedal work genius" The Silent Ballet

Mandelbrot Set UK

6 hands, 10 strings, 1 drum set and a plethora of pedals creating a massive pulsing noise that resonates between harmony and dischord. Combining influences from David Pajo's seminal 'M' project, to the density of Sunn O))'s bowel shaking sound, yet processed and shaped into the syntax and language of something altogether more electronic sounding. ... more
